Thomas Homers Twice, Barch Shines on the Mound as Jaguars Secure Victory

AUGUSTA, Ga - Jackson Thomas hit a solo homer and a three-run homer to lead the Augusta offense as they knocked off USC Beaufort 11-5 Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field. Luke R. Barch pitched six effective innings in the victory. With the win, Augusta is now 2-1 in conference play and 4-13 overall. The Sand Sharks are 1-2 in Peach Belt Conference action and 3-12 overall.

On the mound, Barch cruised through the first five innings without giving up a run. He surrendered a two-run homer in the sixth but didn't allow another run, earning his first victory of the season.

The Jaguars got on the board in the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Jake Vachon walked to start the inning and advanced to third when Nolan Turner reached on an error. Zach Kwiatkowski came through with a two-run single, putting Augusta on top.

They added three more runs over the next two innings to break the game open. In the fifth, the Jaguars benefited from three walks and an error by the Sand Sharks. J. Ben Haynes delivered a sacrifice fly to score Rushton Bowles before Parker Ingram followed with a two-run single, scoring Thomas and Ty McClintock.

In the sixth, Thomas hit a solo home run, and Turner brought in two more runs with a sacrifice fly.

USC Beaufort scored three times in the seventh to cut into the Augusta lead, but in the bottom half of the inning, Thomas crushed a three-run homer to plate Bowles and Mike Morrison.

Augusta will continue conference play Friday when they travel to Milledgeville to open a three-game series against Georgia College.
