HICKORY, N.C. -The Augusta Jaguars opened play at the LR Bear Bash on Saturday, splitting a pair of games with a 5-1 loss to Young Harris before bouncing back with a 10-2 victory over West Liberty.
In the opener, Augusta (8-7) struggled to generate offense against Young Harris, managing just one run in the seventh inning. Young Harris took control with three runs in the second and added two more in the fourth. The Jaguars's lone run came when Kelsea Moody led off the seventh with a double and later scored on Kaylynn Scaffe's RBI groundout.
Ansley Gibson (3-2) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits over four innings. Hannah Turner pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.
Game 2 saw Augusta bounce back with a dominant offensive performance, racking up 15 hits in a 10-2 win over West Liberty. The Jaguars took control in the third inning when Kaylynn Scaffe doubled down the right field line, and Ayellad Howard followed with an RBI double to left. Moments later, Bobbi Poff drove in two runs with a single to right, giving Augusta a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, Cadance Winder walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice, setting up Nevaeh Ross, who crushed a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead. The Jaguars kept adding on, as Kelsea Moody singled in a run in the fifth before launching a two-run homer in the seventh. Ross capped off her big night with her second home run of the game, a solo shot to right-center.
Hannah Turner (3-2) went the distance, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
