AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta softball put together a strong performance on Tuesday afternoon, securing a doubleheader sweep over Erskine with an 8-1 victory in Game 1 and a 9-2 win in Game 2 at Jaguar Field.
In the opener, Augusta took control early, plating three runs in the second inning. Cadance Winder and Kelsea Moody reached base to set up Ansley Gibson, who delivered a two-run double to the right-center gap. Kaylynn Scaffe followed with a groundout to bring home another run, giving Augusta a 3-1 lead. The Jaguars added to their advantage in the third when Bobbi Poff launched a two-run home run to left, scoring Ayellad Howard, who had walked and stolen second.
Augusta put the game away in the sixth, capitalizing on aggressive base running. Howard singled up the middle to score Chesney Miles, and Poff followed with an RBI single to center, advancing to third on an error before scoring on a Winder infield hit.
Ansley Gibson (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Hannah Turner closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
Game 2 saw Augusta jump out quickly again, scoring three runs in the first. Howard singled, Poff followed with a base hit, and Bailee Roberts moved them into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Winder delivered a two-run double to left-center, and Gibson followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0.
The Jaguars extended their lead in the third with a power surge. Roberts crushed a two-run home run to left, followed by Winder's solo shot to center for back-to-back homers, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Erskine plated two runs in the sixth, but Augusta responded immediately. Howard ripped an RBI triple to score Miles, and Roberts added an RBI single to bring Howard home, securing the final margin.
Hannah Turner (1-1) earned the win in the circle, throwing five shutout innings while allowing just six hits and striking out four. Madalyn Spinks pitched the final two frames, surrendering two runs but closing out the victory.
