Jaguars Take Down No. 14 Francis Marion In Doubleheader Sweep

FLORENCE, S.C. – Augusta University softball delivered a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping No. 14 Francis Marion with a thrilling 4-2 extra-innings win in Game 1 followed by a 6-2 victory in Game 2 at FMU Softball Stadium.

In the opener, Augusta (5-3) battled through an 11-inning marathon to secure the upset. After seven scoreless innings, the Jaguars broke through in the ninth when Sam Tener scored on a sacrifice fly from Audrey Abbott. Francis Marion tied it in the bottom half, forcing the game into extra innings. In the 11th, Augusta's offense came alive. Cadance Winder and Kelsea Moody reached base, setting up Ansley Gibson, who delivered an RBI single to put the Jaguars ahead. Grace Bailey added a bunt to move runners over, and Chesney Miles grounded out to bring in another run. By the end of the inning, Augusta held a 4-1 lead.

Ansley Gibson was a force in the circle, pitching all 11 innings and allowing just two unearned runs on five hits while striking out seven.

In Game 2, Augusta struck early with Ayellad Howard singling to start the game, followed by a double from Bobbi Poff to score the first run. Bailee Roberts added an RBI single, giving the Jaguars a quick 2-0 lead. The offense stayed hot in the third as Poff doubled again, and Roberts drove her in with another single. Kelsea Moody followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

Francis Marion cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth, but Augusta responded in the seventh. Roberts singled, and Winder doubled to bring her home. Abbott capped off the scoring after a wild throw allowed Winder to cross the plate.

Hannah Turner (2-1) picked up the win, going five innings while allowing two runs on nine hits. Madalyn Spinks closed out the game, pitching two scoreless innings to earn the save.
