MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Despite scoring two runs in the ninth and leaving the bases loaded, Augusta fell to Georgia College 8-7 Saturday afternoon in Milledgeville. The Jaguars are now 2-3 in Peach Belt Conference play and 4-15 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 2-0 in the conference and 8-10 overall.
Georgia College led 8-5 entering the ninth, but Parker Ingram hit a solo homer to cut the lead to two. Zach Kwiatkowski and Rushton Bowles followed with singles before Wyatt Talik delivered an RBI single, making it 8-7. Mike Morrison then singled to load the bases, but the Jaguars were unable to push across the tying run.
Nolan Turner had a big game for Augusta with three hits, a home run, three runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Turner put AU on the board early with a solo homer in the first.
Georgia College responded with four straight runs to take the lead. In the top of the fourth, Bowles drove in two runs to make it 4-3.
The Bobcats added four more runs and seemed to have the game in hand, but Augusta kept fighting. In the seventh, Ingram doubled in Jake Vachon to cut the deficit to 8-5. The Jaguars' ninth-inning rally came up just short as Georgia College secured the second game of the series.
On the mound, Griffin Stewart pitched three scoreless innings in relief, striking out five while allowing just one hit.
Augusta collected 14 hits in the game but left 10 runners on base.
The two teams wrap up the series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
