Orangeburg, SC- Despite trailing into the eighth inning, Augusta would score two runs in the eighth and then one more in the ninth for a 6-4 win Friday night. With the victory, the Jaguars are now 3-7 in the Peach Belt Conference and 6-19 overall. The Panthers are 0-6 in the conference and 5-14-1 overall.
Down 4-3 in the 8th,
Mike Morrison led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Zach Kwiatkowski would come up with a single moving Morrison to third. Then, with two outs,
Wyatt Talik reached on an error that plated Morrison with the tying run. Kwiatkowski would score on a passed ball, which ended up being the winning run.
Roland Chance provided some insurance in the ninth with a solo home run, his fifth of the year. Chance had two hits on the night as did
Aidan Cannaday to lead the Jaguar offense. Cannaday also homered to start the scoring for AU in the second inning.
Gavin Zoeller went the final 3.2 innings and did not surrender a hit. Zoeller struck out five and picked up his first win of the year.Â
Matthew Thigpen and
Nolan Turner each drove in a run as well for AU. Thigpen delivered a RBI double while Turner plated Chance on an infield ground out. Â
Augusta and Claflin will continue the series on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
