Jaguars Rally Late To Tie Belmont Abbey, But Fall in the Ninth Inning

Belmont, N.C. - Trailing 4-0 headed to the seventh inning, Augusta battled back to tie the game in the ninth, but fall to Belmont Abbey 5-4 Wednesday night. AU is now 8-20 while the Crusaders move to 18-10.

The Jaguar bats were held in check through six innings, but in the seventh, Parker Ingram had a lead off single. Two batters later, Jake Vachon would deliver a RBI double plating the first run of the game. Eli Overstreet would then come up with a pinch hit run scoring double that plated Vachon with the second run of the frame.

An inning later, Mike Morrison would triple and Ingram would drive him home making it a 4-3 game. Then, in the ninth, Vachon would walk, advance to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice would move him to third and he would score the tying run on another wild pitch.

But the host Crusaders would push across the winning run in the ninth.

Ingram was the only Augusta batter with more than one hit as they managed just six hits for the game.

On the mound, Ty Cobb went 3.2 innings giving up four runs on three hits. Caleb Jatko pitched 2.2 innings of two-hit ball.

Augusta returns to action Friday night when they hit the road to take on USC Beaufort.
