Jags Fall to Georgia Southwestern is Series Finale

AMERICUS, Ga. - Augusta University softball wrapped up their Peach Belt Conference opening series on Saturday, falling 12-0 in five innings in game one before dropping a close 3-2 decision in game two at Lady Canes Field.

Game 1: Georgia Southwestern 12, Augusta 0 

Augusta (12-11, 0-2 PBC) was held to just one hit, a single by Ayellad Howard in the third inning. The Jaguars had limited offensive opportunities and were unable to push a run across.

Hannah Turner (4-3) started in the circle, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits in one-third of an inning. Madalyn Spinks pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up five earned runs, while Payton Terrell worked the final inning, allowing one run.

Game 2: Georgia Southwestern 3, Augusta 2

The Jaguars responded with a strong effort in game two, briefly holding a lead before Georgia Southwestern scored the deciding run in the sixth.

Augusta took the lead in the fourth when Ayellad Howard walked and later scored as Bailee Roberts reached on an error. Ansley Gibson followed with an RBI single to bring in Roberts, giving Augusta a 2-1 advantage.

Nevaeh Ross added a hit for Augusta in the fifth inning, but the Jaguars were unable to add to their lead. 

Holding a 2-2 tie heading into the bottom of the sixth, Augusta allowed a single deciding run in bottom of the seventh inning. 

Gibson (5-3) started and threw five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Turner (4-4) took the loss in relief after allowing the deciding run in the sixth.
