Hardeeville, S.C. – The Augusta University softball team came up short in the series finale at USC Beaufort on Sunday, falling 6-4 after building an early lead. The Jaguars move to 16-19 overall and 2-10 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Augusta struck first in the second inning. Bailee Roberts singled to right and stole second before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from Audrey Johnson. Sam Tener followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Roberts and give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead.

USC Beaufort answered with a run in the bottom half, but Augusta quickly reclaimed the lead in the third. Sophie Baker singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bobbi Poff. After a walk and a wild pitch, Ansley Gibson singled to center to score Baker. On the next play, Kelsea Moody scored on another wild pitch to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Sand Sharks responded with five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Jayda Goodwin.

Augusta scratched across another run in the fifth when Poff singled, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Cadence Winder to cut the deficit to 6-4.

The Jaguars had a final chance in the seventh after Baker walked and pinch runner Chesney Miles stole second, but Augusta couldn't capitalize.

Poff went 1-for-3 with one run scored and a stolen base. Gibson, Roberts, Winder, and Baker each recorded hits. Tener had a sac fly, and Moody, Johnson, and Gibson all contributed to key scoring plays.
