CENTRAL, S.C. – Augusta University softball earned a road sweep at Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon, winning both ends of the non-conference doubleheader at Varsity Field. The Jaguars took the opener 3-2 before edging the Warriors again in game two, 3-2. With the wins, Augusta improved to 18-18 overall.
Game 1: Augusta 3, Southern Wesleyan 2
Augusta used timely hits and solid pitching to take the opener. After Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the third, the Jaguars reclaimed the lead in the sixth when Sam Tener singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sophie Baker.
Ansley Gibson earned the win in the circle, improving to 6-6 after throwing 4.0 innings with six strikeouts. Madalyn Spinks picked up the save, tossing the final three innings with four strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
Offensively, Gibson doubled and scored a run, Tener went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Baker drove in a run. Chesney Miles scored twice, including the game-winning run, and added a single.
Game 2: Augusta 3, Southern Wesleyan 2
The Jaguars struck early in game two, putting up three runs in the top of the first. Tener led off with a single before Ayellad Howard tripled to bring her home. Bailee Roberts followed with a two-run homer to center field, her first of the season.
The early offense held up behind a strong combined effort from the pitching staff. Peyton Terrell started the game, and Spinks (6-5) earned the win in relief. Gibson closed the final three innings, recording her first save of the season.
Roberts finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Howard added two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Tener collected two hits and scored once.
