North Augusta, S.C. - In the annual Battle for the Paddle, it was USC Aiken edging Augusta 8-7 Wednesday night at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. The Jaguars are now 8-23 overall while the Pacers are 15-16.
Parker Ingram homered and drove in three runs to lead AU.
The Jaguars jumped out to the early lead in the top of the first.
Nolan Turner would single to start the game and move to second when
Matthew Thigpen reached after being hit by a pitch. Then Ingram would double home Turner with the first run of the game.
Zach Kwiatkowski would lift a sacrifice fly scoring the second run of the game and then
Roland Chance would single home Ingram with the third run of the frame.
USC Aiken would score once in the bottom of the first, but Augusta would strike again in the second as Ingram would hit a towering two-run home run to left giving the Jaguars a 5-1 lead.
After the Pacers would score in the third they would plate four runs in the fifth to take the lead, one they would not give up.
Trailing 7-5 in the seventh, the Jags would get one back when
Mike Morrison singled home Ingram.
Augusta would add one more in the eighth. With two outs, Chance would reach on an error and come around to score on a
Jake Vachon single.
But the Pacers would close the door to pick up the win.
Augusta returns to Jaguar Field for a three game series with North Georgia starting on Friday at 6 p.m. The Jaguars will host D-Bat Evans Day as D-Bat will bring an exciting and interactive experience for young athletes and their families during the Jaguars home baseball and softball games.
