AUGUSTA, GA-Â In a game that featured 32 runs and 28 hits, Lander outlasted Augusta on Saturday, winning game two of the series 18-14. The Jaguars are now 2-6 in Peach Belt Conference play and 5-18 overall, while the Bearcats improve to 4-1 in conference and 15-6 overall.
Nolan Turner led the AU offense with three hits, including a grand slam in the sixth inning that gave the Jaguars a 13-9 lead. Unfortunately, Augusta could not hold off the Bearcats, who scored five runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth to secure the win.
Along with Turner, Parker Ingram, Mike Morrison, Zach Kwiatkowski, Rushton Bowles, and Aidan Cannaday each recorded two hits, while every Jaguar hitter scored at least one run. Kwiatkowski crossed the plate three times for Augusta.
Lander took a 5-1 lead into the third before Augusta's bats came alive. A sacrifice fly by Morrison was followed by a Kwiatkowski single, making it 5-3. Bowles and Chance each drove in runs on fielder's choices, and an error helped the Jaguars take a 6-5 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Lander regained the lead at 9-6, only to see Augusta respond again. Bowles doubled home two runs, Thigpen picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk, and Turner launched a grand slam down the right field line as Augusta put up seven runs in the inning.
The Bearcats reclaimed the lead in the seventh, but the Jaguars fought back once more. Cannaday singled home Kwiatkowski to tie the game at 14.
However, Lander plated four runs in the eighth to secure the victory.
The final game of the series will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
