Chance Homers Against Lander In Series Finale

AUGUSTA, GA - In game three of their series with Lander, Augusta fell to the Bearcats 9-4. The Jaguars are now 2-7 in Peach Belt Conference play and 5-19 overall, while the Bearcats improve to 5-1 in conference and 16-6 overall.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Roland Chance hit his fourth homer of the year, cutting the deficit in half in the third inning. Then, in the fourth, Parker Ingram singled to lead off the inning, and Zach Kwiatkowski drove him home with a double down the left field line, tying the game at two.

Lander responded with seven straight runs, and Augusta didn't score again until the ninth inning. Matthew Thigpen led off with a single and moved to second when Nolan Turner was hit by a pitch. Then, with two outs, Mike Morrison delivered a two-run double to left for the final runs of the game.

Kwiatkowski and Morrison each had two hits to lead the Augusta offense.

Despite allowing four runs, Jagger Iovinelli kept the Bearcats off the board from the second through the fifth inning.

Augusta will return to action when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C., to take on Claflin in a conference series on March 14 and 15.
