Jaguars Split Home Doubleheader Against Flagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team split a home doubleheader with Flagler on Saturday, bouncing back with a 2-1 win in game two after falling 9-1 in game one at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars moved to 15-12 overall and 1-3 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Game One: Flagler 9, Augusta 1

Flagler jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and used a three-run fourth and sixth to pull away. Augusta's lone run came in the sixth when Bailee Roberts reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Bobbi Poff to come around to score.

The Jaguars managed three hits in the game, coming from Ansley Gibson, Ryan Hanson, and Poff.

Gibson (5-4) started and took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits over 3.1 innings. Hannah Turner and Payton Terrell combined to pitch the final 3.2 innings, with Terrell allowing one run in relief.

Game Two: Augusta 2, Flagler 1

Augusta responded in game two with a strong pitching performance from Madalyn Spinks (4-2), who threw a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out two.

The Jaguars took control early, scoring both runs in the first inning. Poff and Ayellad Howard worked walks to open the game before Roberts laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. A wild pitch allowed Howard to score the first run before Cadance Winder delivered an RBI single to bring in Augusta's second run.

Flagler's only run came in the sixth on a groundout, but Spinks closed the door in the seventh to seal the win.
