Augusta Drops High-Scoring Game to Belmont Abbey

Augusta, Ga. - In a game that saw seven lead changes, it was Belmont Abbey outscoring Augusta 19-10 to take the Wednesday night contest. Jake Vachon hit a three-run homer and drove in five for the Jaguars but it was not enough. Augusta is now 10-33 overall while Belmont Abbey is 31-14.

The Crusaders jumped out to the early lead when they plated four runs in the first. But Augusta bounced right back in the bottom of the second. Wyatt Talik picked up an infield hit that drove in the first Jag run of the game. Owen Primm added a RBI on a ground out and then it was Nolan Turner delivering a two-run single as AU tied it 4-4. Roland Chance would lift a sacrifice fly to give AU their fifth run of the frame for the lead.

The Jags would trail 6-5 in the fourth when Vachon picked delivered a two-run single as Augusta would take a 7-6 lead.

Trailing 9-7 in the sixth inning, it was Vachon crushing a three-run homer to right that put the Jaguars up 10-9. But again the Crusaders would come back and in the top of the seventh, they would retake the lead. Then, up 11-10 in the ninth, they exploded for eight runs for the winning margin.

Aidan Cannaday had two hits for the Jags and Zach Kwiatkowski scored three times in the losing effort.

Augusta will be back at Jaguar Field Thursday night at 6 p.m. when they host Georgia Southwestern.
