Augusta, Ga. - Augusta's
Mike Morrison had two doubles, four hits and a pair of RBI as Augusta dropped their series opener against Georgia Southwestern 9-3 Thursday night at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars are now 6-16 in conference play and 10-34 overall. The Hurricanes improve to 14-8 in the Peach Belt Conference and 27-18 overall.
Georgia Southwestern scored the first five runs of the game and kept Augusta off the scoreboard until the fifth inning. In that frame,
Zach Kwiatkowski reached on an error and would score on a Morrison double.
Nolan Turner would then deliver a RBI single to make it 5-2.
GSW would extend the lead to 8-2 in the seventh when AU would score their final run of the game. Kwiatkowski singled to start the inning and went to second on a wild pitch. Morrison would bring him home on a run scoring single to left center.
Roland Chance would have two hits as did
Rushton Bowles and
Ty McClintock. But the Jaguars would strand 11 base runners.
Garrett Wright (2-4) started and went 6.1 innings.
Caleb Jatko and
Hunter Potzner would finish out the game without giving up a run in the last 2.2 innings.
The three game series continues on Friday with first pitch at 6 p.m. at Jaguar Field. The series concludes Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
