Augusta, Ga. - In a dramatic game, Augusta's
Jake Vachon lifted a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning that plated the winning run as the Jaguars knocked off Flagler 7-6 Friday night. With the win, Augusta clinches a spot in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw several lead changes, but the Jags picked up the win and improve to 7-18 in the conference and 11-37 overall. The Saints are 12-13 in conference play, 29-17 overall.
Tied 6-6 in the ninth,
Parker Ingram led off with a triple to left-center. Ingram left the game as
Owen Primm pinch ran for him. Following a pair of intentional walks to load the bases, Flagler brought an outfielder to play on the infield. But it wouldn't matter as
Jake Vachon delivered a deep fly ball to left that allowed Primm to score the winning run.Â
After giving up a run to start the game, the Jags took the lead in the bottom of the first. Ingram hit his 15th homer of the year, a two-run shot, giving AU the 2-1 lead.
It was 3-2 Flagler in the second, but
Mike Morrison came through with a two-run double as AU retook the lead.Â
The Saints would score two in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, but again, the Jags would respond. This time,
Ty McClintock delivered a solo homer to left tying the game at five. Then, in the seventh, the Jags would retake the lead. Morrison would single and move to third on a double by
Jackson Thomas. With two outs, Flagler uncorked a wild pitch allowing Morrison to score the go-ahead run.Â
In the eighth, the Saints would again tie the game, setting the stage for the ninth inning heroics by the Jaguars.Â
Morrison, Ingram and Jackson all had two hits on the night with McClintock and Morrison each scored twice.
Griffin Stewart picked up the win in relief going two innings, giving up one run while striking out two.
The Saints and Jaguars will play game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Jaguar Field.Â
