Columbus, Ga. - Despite an outstanding pitching effort by
Luke R. Barch, Augusta dropped game one of their doubleheader to Columbus State 4-1. Then, in game two, the Jaguars hit four homers, but came up short in dropping a 9-8 decision to the Cougars. Augusta is now 5-13 in the conference and 9-30 overall. Columbus State is 9-8 in the Peach Belt Conference, 20-15 overall.
GAME ONE
In the opener, Barch pitched seven innings giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out eight. The Jags gave up a run in the first but took advantage of some Cougar wildness to plate the equalizer.
Mike Morrison walked and would advance to afer
Aidan Cannaday would be hit by a pitch. A walk to
Zach Kwiatkowski followed by a wild pitch would score the first AU run of the game.
CSU would get two late runs for the winning margin. AU had just four hits with
Ty McClintock picking up two of them. Morrison did get a hit to extend his hitting streak to 30 straight games.
GAME TWO
Then in the night cap, the Jags grabbed the early lead on a two-run homer by Cannaday in the first inning. But CSU would respond with a two-run shot of their own.
After the Cougars took a 5-2 lead,
Nolan Turner would smoke his ninth home run of the year to make it 5-3.
It was 7-3 in the fifth,
Parker Ingram unleashed his first of two homers on the game to make it 7-5. For Ingram, he now has 12 homers on the year as the Jags lead the conference in that category. An inning later, Augusta would get within one as
Roland Chance scored on a wild pitch.
Again, CSU would extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth before Ingram's second blast of the game in the seventh, another two-run shot as he picked up four RBI on the game and scored three times.
Chance had three hits to lead the offense while Morrison had his 30 game hitting streak come to an end.
Augusta returns to the diamond Friday night when they take on rival USC Aiken at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
