Augusta 21st After the Opening Round of the NCAA Championship

Carlsbad, Ca. - After one round of the NCAA Championship, the Augusta men's golf team is at 7-over-par. Oklahoma leads at 8-under-par with Florida, Florida State and Texas tied for second. The Jaguars are just two shots out of the top 15 as the field will be trimmed from 30 to 15 after 54 holes. Then a final cut will come after 72 holes with the top eight teams making match play.

Dean Wilken was the low Jaguar on Friday and signed for a 1-under-par 71. and in 25th place.  AU started on the back nine and Wilken had six straight pars to start his round. He did bogey no. 16 and had a second bogey on no. 2. Following three more pars, Wilken proceeded to birdie three of the next four holes to be one of the few golfers who broke par out of the morning tee times. 

Stefan Jacobs posted the second best score for the Jaguars at 1-over-par. Jacobs had two birdies and a bogey on the first nine holes. A stretch of three straight bogeys was followed by one more birdie to account for his score. 

The third Jaguar score was turned in by Bo Blanchard II at 3-over-par. Blanchard started a double bogey on no. 10 and had one birdie and one par before making the turn. He did card four birdies on the front nine but also two bogeys and a triple bogey that hurt his final score. 

Pieter Rossouw Jr. shot 4-over-par for the final score that counted for the team. Rossouw shot 40 on his first nine holes followed by a 36. He did have two birdies on the front nine.

Chapman Barnett had the non-counting score for the Jags on Friday. Barnett had a roller coaster round and finished at 5-over-par. He had three birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey on his scorecard. 

Augusta will again be paired with Troy and California on Saturday and will play in the afternoon wave. The Jaguar first tee time is at 4:40 EST.
