AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Augusta women's golf team is back on the road at the Windy City Collegiate Classic Sept. 29-30 at Glen View Golf Club in Glen View, Illinois. This is the fourth event of the fall season for the Jaguars as they will play 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes on Tuesday. There are 12 teams competing in the event featuring Purdue, Michigan State, Virginai, Illinois and the host school, Northwestern.
For the Jaguars it's a matter of getting everyone to click at once. They've had some solid performances on the individual front, but need the entire team to post good scores.
"We're trending in the right direction," said coach Ember Holloway. "I'm hoping for a tournament where we have more than one person click. I do feel this could be the week for that so I'm excited about that."
After missing almost a year,
Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy will return to the course. Gonzalez-McCarthy won the Lady Paladin Invitational last fall, but an injury sidelined her for the majority of the season. Getting her back in the lineup should provide a boost to the team.
One thing the Jags look to improve upon is getting off to a better start. In their last tournament, they struggled in the opening round and it was tough to overcome. It's a fact not lost on Holloway.
"You are typically better in the second and third round but getting off to that solid start is very important," said Holloway. "We've been getting ourselves behind the eight ball a little bit and having to make up ground versus having the chance to contend. I'm going to approach the practice round a little bit differently and see if that helps sparks something,"
