Augusta, Ga. - The Augusta men's golf team is gearing up for the third tournament of the fall season as they will be part of the first Bryan Bros Collegiate in West Columbia, S.C. Sept. 29-30. Teams will play 36 holes on the first day with the final 18 holes on the second day at Solina Golf Club. LSU, Duke, South Carolina, Clemson and North Carolina State are some of the schools participating in the inaugural event.
The Jags haven't gotten off to the start of the season they hoped for, but they also know there's plenty of time left to get things going.
"We haven't had the best start of the season, not what we're looking for with bringing back an experienced bunch," said coach Steven Paine. "At the same time, we feel like we've learned a lot of things and there's still a lot of season left."
Paine added they need to stay disciplined and keep mistakes to a minimum, which has been an issue in the early going.
While the top two in the Jaguar lineup have struggled at times, there's no reason to think it will continue. Others, like
Pieter Rossouw Jr., have stepped up their game.
"Our best two players haven't been playing the best golf early but it's been good to see contributions coming from the other guys," said Paine. "As you know in sports, with great players, they are going to figure it out at some point and it's encouraging to see other guys playing good golf."
