Augusta, Ga. - With the second semester of the school year now underway, that also brings with it the spring schedule for the Augusta University men's golf team. They Jaguars have six events slated before the conference tournament in early May.
After a solid finish to the year in Hawaii highlighted by
Stefan Jacobs third place finish, coach Steven Paine is anxious to see the carryover into the bulk of their schedule.
"We're going to take that momentum running into the spring. We had a great spring last year and look forward to doing that again," said Paine.
AU played in six events in the fall and with most of the players going almost nonstop through the summer months of tournament golf, it can become a grind. Giving those players a break, and giving the newer players a chance to regroup bodes well when the schedule starts in February.
"You're top end competitive guys are playing all the way from January through November so it was good for them to take some time off and kind of reset. For everyone else, for a lot of guys coming into the system it can be new so taking some of the structures and the things we do, we feel like we can hit the ground running more in the spring," said Paine.
The schedule starts in Charleston and will be highlighted by the annual Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Every event will pose a challenge as the Jags going against some of the best teams in the country.
"We play some really strong competition and in golf, spring is your championship segment," said Paine. "We're excited to take what we learned in the fall and take that into the spring and we're playing some great events so really excited to get going,"
