Augusta, Ga- Augusta took advantage of several Southern Wesleyan mistakes and doubled up the Warriors 8-4. The Jaguars even their record at 4-4 while the Warriors fall to 2-4.
After giving up a run in the top of the first, AU got things going in the bottom half and plated four runs.
Jakob Cowart would score on a wild pitch and
Mattheson Go would do the same to give the Jags a 2-1 lead.
Davis Newman would then deliver ra two-run single to cap off the four run frame. Newman would finish with two hits for the game.Â
The score would remain that way thanks in large part to the pitching of
Patrick Matsunaga. He would come on in relief in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out but set down the next three hitters to keep the Warriors at bay. Matsunaga would pick up his first collegiate win in the game.
The Jaguars would again take advantage of Southern Wesleyan mistakes in the sixth. With two on
Kent Moon would hit a fly ball to center that was misplayed allowing
Jake Vachon and
Landon Leonard to score.Â
Elijah Durnell would pitch a scoreless 1.2 innings and Ryley Akins would finish off the ninth.Â
AU had just six hits with
Jakob Cowart also picking up two of them.
The Jaguars will open Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when they travel to Orangeburg, SC to take on Claflin in a three game series.Â
