Orangeburg, S.C.- Augusta University saw 11 different players drive in runs as they dominated Claflin 20-2 to open Peach Belt Conference play. The Jaguars are now 1-1 in the conference and 5-4 overall. The Panthers are now 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Nathan Martin led the Jaguar attack with two hits, three runs driven in and scored a pair of runs.
AU scored six times in the opening inning as
Landon Leonard got the scoring going with a two-run double.
Davis Newman added a two-run single and Martin would also drive in a pair of runs to cap off the frame.
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Augusta bats got hot and they would plate five runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the sixth to cruise to the victory.
In the fifth, after scoring a run on a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk,
Jakob Cowart would reach on an error that allowed
Jake Vachon to score.
Mattheson Go would single home the fourth run of the frame. They would cap off the inning with another run coming home on a walk.
AU put it on ice an inning later.
Nolan Turner and
Harris Bachelder had RBI singles and
Jake Johnson would bring home a pair of Jaguars with another hit.
Aidan Cannaday capped off the frame with a two-run double.
Ty McClintock would homer in the seventh for the final run for the Jaguars.
Cowart, Go,
Roland Chance, Bachelder, Newman and Martin all collected a pair of hits.
Griffin Stewart picked up his second win of the year with five innings of three-hit ball. He did give up a pair of runs while striking out six.
The Jaguars and Panthers will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
