BELMONT, N.C. – The Augusta University men's tennis team played a doubleheader on the road Friday at Belmont Abbey but came up short in both matches at the Reidy Tennis Center. The Jaguars fell 4-1 in the opener before dropping the second match 4-0, moving to 1-2 on the season.
In the first match, Belmont Abbey secured the doubles point by sweeping all three courts. Augusta's closest result came at No. 2 doubles, where David Perret and Arthur Valette battled but fell 5-7.
Augusta's lone point came in singles play at No. 3, as Perret earned a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-4. The remaining singles matches went in favor of Belmont Abbey, while the matches at No. 2 and No. 6 were left unfinished.
In the second match of the day, Belmont Abbey again took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with Belmont Abbey leading.
In singles, Belmont Abbey claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to clinch the match. Several other courts were still in progress when the match was decided, while Enzo Sakiyama dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 6.
Next Up: Augusta returns home to host Coker University on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Newman Tennis Center.
