Nolan Turner drove in three runs and
Ryan Patrick collected four hits as Augusta knocked off USC Beaufort 12-5 Friday night on the road. With the win, the Jaguars improved to 4-0 in Peach Belt Conference play and 8-5 overall. The Sand Sharks are now 0-4 in the conference and 3-7 overall.
After giving up a first inning run, the Jags responded in the third by scoring three times. Patrick scored an unearned run which was followed by a Turner RBI double. Turner would later score on a wild pitch giving AU a 3-1 lead.Â
Augusta would score two more times an inning later with Patrick coming up with a RBI single and
Jakob Cowart doing the same to extend the lead.
The Jags would score three more times in the fifth to take a commanding lead.
Roland Chance doubled home Aiden Cannaday to start things off.
Kent Moon then singled home Chance with Patrick picking up another RBI single.Â
USC Beaufort scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to make it an 8-5 ball game. But Augusta would put it on ice with a two-run home run by Cannaday in the seventh and then a Turner two-run single in the eighth would seal the deal for the Jaguars.Â
Turner finished with three hits and the three RBI as Moon and Cannaday also added tow hits.Â
Tyler Zawacki was credited with his second win of the year on the mound pitching 3.1 innings.
Patrick Matsunaga finished things off with two shutout innings as he struck out three.
The Jags and Sand Sharks will continue the series on Saturday with first pitch now scheduled for noon.Â
