Augusta Sweeps Coker, Extending Their Win Streak To Four

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta University softball team pushed its winning streak to four games Saturday afternoon, sweeping Coker in a doubleheader at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars took game one 4-2 before erupting for a 13-0 run-rule victory in game two to improve to 6-6 on the season.

GAME ONE Augusta 4, Coker 2
Augusta broke through in the bottom of the third inning, using one swing to seize control of the contest.

After Sam Tener singled and Grace Bailey worked a walk, Ansley Gibson laced a base hit to load the bases for Eden Parker. Parker delivered in a big way, launching a grand slam to give the Jaguars a 4-1 lead.

Coker got on the board in the third inning behind an RBI single from P. Perry and added another run in the sixth, but Augusta's pitching staff limited further damage.

Madalyn Spinks earned the win in the circle, tossing six innings while allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out five. She worked out of multiple traffic situations, including a bases-loaded threat in the sixth inning. Kristyn Ezzo came in the seventh and recorded two strikeouts to secure the save.

Offensively, Tener led the Jaguars with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate and scored a run. Parker finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs and the decisive grand slam. Augusta tallied six hits in the win and capitalized on its key scoring opportunity in the third inning.

GAME TWO — Augusta 13, Coker 0 (5 innings)
Augusta completed the doubleheader sweep in emphatic fashion, exploding for 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning of the five-inning shutout over Coker. The Jaguars improved to 6-6 on the season, while Coker moved to 5-5.

The Jaguars' offense erupted in the second. Kelsea Moody jump-started the frame with a double, and Augusta kept the pressure on with aggressive baserunning and timely hits to continually push runners around the bases.

Ansley Gibson delivered the biggest swings of the inning, she would drive in six runs and capping that with a grand slam to put the game out of reach. Victoria Oropeza added a key pinch-hit double for two RBIs, and Nevaeh Ross knocked in a pair with a single. Augusta sent a wave of hitters to the plate in the decisive inning.

In the circle, Augusta pitching was dominant. Gibson earned the win by working four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three. Eden Parker finished off the shutout with a clean fifth inning, striking out one, as the Jaguars held Coker scoreless and secured the run-rule victory.
