Jags Split Nonconference Doubleheader at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – Augusta University split a nonconference doubleheader at Erskine on Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-2 in game one before earning a 10-2 win in game two. The Jaguars move to 7-7 overall, while Erskine is now 2-10.

Game 1: Erskine 3, Augusta 2

Augusta outhit Erskine 8-6 in the opener but was unable to hold off the Flying Fleet late.

The Jaguars took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Payton Terrell singled to right center to score Eden Parker. Erskine answered in the fifth with a two-run home run to take a 2-1 advantage.

Augusta tied the game in the sixth. Kaylynn Scaffe delivered a pinch-hit single and later scored on a Sam Tener RBI single to even the score at 2-2.

Erskine pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out single following a fielding error.

Sam Tener finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kaylynn Scaffe added a pinch-hit single and a run scored, while Payton Terrell drove in a run. Sydney Gilbert, Victoria Oropeza and Sophie Baker each recorded a hit.

Kristyn Ezzo pitched 4.2 innings with five strikeouts, allowing two unearned runs. Eden Parker (0-1) took the loss after working the final two innings.

Game 2: Augusta 10, Erskine 2

Augusta responded with 13 hits in the second game, breaking things open with a five-run fourth inning and four more runs in the fifth.

The Jaguars struck first in the third inning. Teagan Hinson doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Madalyn Spinks. Eden Parker added an RBI single in the inning to make it 2-0.

In the fourth, Victoria Oropeza reached on an error before Teagan Hinson launched a two-run home run to center field. Augusta added another run later in the frame to extend the lead.

The Jaguars put the game away in the fifth. Grace Bailey delivered a two-run double and Eden Parker followed with a two-run single to push the advantage to 9-1.

Augusta added its final run in the sixth when Victoria Oropeza doubled to score Sydney Gilbert.

Teagan Hinson went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBIs. Eden Parker finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Grace Bailey drove in two runs. Madalyn Spinks was 3-for-4 with an RBI and also earned the win in the circle. Spinks (3-1) allowed two runs on two hits over six innings with two strikeouts.

Augusta returns to action Friday, Feb. 27, traveling to face the University of Mount Olive for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in Mount Olive, N.C. Live stats and video links will be available at augustajags.com.
