Augusta, Ga. -
Caleb Jatko pitched six strong innings and
Mattheson Go collected three hits and four RBI as Augusta knocked off Georgia Southwestern 7-3 Saturday at Jaguar Field. With the win, the Jags improve to 7-1 in the Peach Belt Conference and 11-7 overall. The Hurricanes are 6-2 in conference play and 11-7 overall.
Augusta wasted little time to get on the scoreboard as they played four runs in the first inning. They took advantage of some Cane wildness on the mound.
Nolan Turner, who had two hits and two RBI, drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single plating
Nathan Martin. After a couple of hit batsmen,
Roland Chance would walk with the bases loaded to plate the second run of the game. Go would follow that up with a two-run single and it was quickly 4-0 Augusta.
Jatko would give up a solo home run in the third inning and then a two-run shot in the sixth, but that would be it. He collects his third win of the year.
Patrick Matsunaga would again be impressive in relief picking up the save. He pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.
AU did get some insurance in the seventh. Martin would triple down the right field line and score on a Turner sacrifice fly.
They would plate two more runs in the eighth as Go collected a two-run single.
The series finale will be Sunday afternoon with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
