AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University women's basketball forward Amari Jackson and men's basketball forward Luis Nonfon have been named the Georgia's Own Student-Athletes of the Month for January. The Georgia's Own Student-Athlete of the Month Award honors one male and one female Augusta University student-athlete from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
Amari Jackson – Women's Basketball
Jackson, a 6-foot-1 senior forward/center from Gainesville, Fla., put together a strong January, averaging 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 62.2 percent from the field across eight games. She recorded double-doubles against USC Aiken and Flagler and was named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on January 26. During that week, Jackson averaged 19.5 points and 11 rebounds, scoring 19 points with 11 rebounds and two steals in a win over North Georgia before adding 20 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, an assist, and a steal in Augusta's victory at Flagler.
Luis Nonfon – Men's Basketball
Nonfon, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Berlin, Germany, led the Peach Belt Conference in rebounding during the month of January, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game across eight contests. He posted double-digit rebounds four times, including a season-high 12 boards at Flagler and three separate 10-rebound performances. Nonfon added two double-doubles on the season and continued to anchor the Jaguars inside with consistent production on the glass throughout conference play.
