AUGUSTA, GA – Augusta University softball split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field. The Hurricanes claimed game one 4-0 before the Jaguars rallied for a 5-4 extra-inning victory in game two. Augusta moves to 12-10 overall while Georgia Southwestern sits at 10-13.
Game One
Georgia Southwestern took control early and held Augusta to just one hit in a 4-0 win in the opener.
The Hurricanes broke through in the third inning when Madison Griffis drove in a run with an RBI single and Peyton Namyslowski added another run on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.
Georgia Southwestern extended the lead in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Riley Ernst after Lani Dansby doubled to open the frame. Griffis later capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Nevaeh Ross recorded Augusta's lone hit with a bunt single in the sixth inning. Kristyn Ezzo went the distance in the circle for the Jaguars, allowing four runs on nine hits across seven innings.
Game Two
Augusta bounced back in game two, earning a 5-4 walk-off victory in eight innings.
The Jaguars grabbed the early lead with runs in the second and third innings. Kaylynn Scaffe drove in Nevaeh Ross with an RBI single in the second, and Ansley Gibson added an RBI groundout in the third to push the advantage to 2-0.
Georgia Southwestern tied the game in the fifth inning as a pair of Augusta errors allowed two unearned runs to score.
Augusta regained the lead in the sixth when Ross scored and Scaffe later crossed the plate on a throwing error to give the Jaguars a 4-2 advantage.
The Hurricanes answered with two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ross reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced to third as Scaffe and Chesney Miles delivered consecutive bunt singles to load the bases. Ross then scored the winning run on a passed ball to give Augusta the walk-off victory, the Jaguars' second of the series.
Ross led Augusta offensively, going 2-for-3 while scoring three runs, including the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
Madalyn Spinks earned the win in the circle, tossing all eight innings while allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits. The victory moves the Jaguars to 11-5 at home and 5-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Augusta returns to action Tuesday, March 17, traveling to face Catawba for a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., before returning to conference play next weekend at Flagler College.
