Belmont, N.C. -
Landon Leonard and
Harris Bachelder both homered, but it was not enough as Belmont Abbey knocked off Augusta 11-8 in a midweek match up in North Carolina.
The Jaguars fall to 13-13 overall while the Crusaders improve to 18-8.Â
AU got on the board in the opening frame when
Nolan Turner would score on an error. The Crusaders quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.Â
The Jaguars would come up with a five spot in the second.
Jakob Cowart and
Nolan Turner would pick up RBI singles and then Leonard would crack a three-run homer to cap off the inning.Â
Belmont would tie it at six, but Augusta would retake the lead courtesy a Bachelder two-run homer in the fifth inning. Those would be the last runs AU would score as the Crusaders would plate the final five runs of the game.Â
Leonard would collect a pair of hits with six other Jag hitters reaching via the base hit. Bachelder and Leonard each drove in three runs.Â
Augusta will resume Peach Belt Conference play when they host Georgia College for a three game series starting Friday at 5:00 p.m.Â
