Men's Golf to be Put to the Test at the Valspar Collegiate

Augusta, Ga.- With just three tournaments left before the conference championship, the Augusta men's golf team will be part of a loaded field at the Valspar Collegiate hosted by the University of Houston. The Jaguars will be in a field that features five teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation and 10 in the top 25.

Despite not playing their best the last time out at the Schenkel Invitational, coach Steven Paine likes the direction the team is headed, especially here in the spring part of the season.

"This is a really good field and we can see where we stack up," said Paine. "We played really well in our first two events with a win and a third place finish, and at the Schenkel we played some good golf, but just need to clean up a few things. But I feel like the guys are probably playing the best golf we are playing all year."

With just a couple of tournaments left, Paine knows it's go-time for the Jaguars as they hope to be peaking by the conference championship.

"It's kind of like the majors, building up for that, whether it's intensity or excitement," said Paine.

The field this week includes No. 1 Auburn, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Arizona St., and No. 10 Texas Tech.

The tournament is March 23-24 with 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
