Jags Pick Up Two Conference Wins Over Middle Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta University softball team earned a conference doubleheader sweep Saturday at Jaguar Field, defeating Middle Georgia 6-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two. With the wins, the Jaguars move to 9-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Middle Georgia falls to 5-9.

Game 1: Augusta 6, Middle Georgia 0

Augusta set the tone early in the opener, scoring three in the first inning to take control of the game with Ansley Gibson starteing the rally with a single before Eden Parker reached base, setting the table for Payton Terrell, who delivered a two-run single. Nevaeh Ross followed with an RBI single to give the Jaguars a quick 3-0 lead.

The Jaguars added to their advantage in the third inning when Chesney Miles moved into scoring position and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Parker.

Augusta extended the lead in the fourth inning. Ross reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single from Madalyn Spinks, and Parker brought home Sam Tener after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the lead to 6-0.

In the circle, Gibson tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits. Gibson also led the offense with two hits while Ross, Terrell, Sydney Gilbert and Spinks added hits in the win.

Game 2: Augusta 3, Middle Georgia 2

The second game proved to be much tighter, but Augusta again found a way to come out on top.

The Jaguars struck first when Grace Bailey scored on an RBI double from Gibson in the opening inning. Middle Georgia answered with two runs in the second, but Augusta tied the game later in the frame when Ross scored on an RBI groundout by Sam Tener.

The go-ahead run came in the fourth inning when Bailey delivered an RBI single to score Ayellad Howard, putting Augusta ahead 3-2.

Madalyn Spinks earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing three hits and striking out nine to close out the day.

Bailey led Augusta with two hits, while Gibson and Ross each added extra-base hits.

Augusta returns to Jaguar Field on Sunday to conclude their first conference series against Middle Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
