AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta came up short in the series opener, falling 5-0 to USC Aiken Pacers softball on Friday evening.
The Pacers used a five-run first inning to take an early lead, but Augusta settled in and competed well through the remainder of the contest to hold them steady.
In the circle, Madalyn Spinks provided a strong relief outing, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits to keep the Jaguars within reach.
Offensively, Augusta was limited to two hits on the evening, with Eden Parker recording a double and Victoria Oropeza adding a base hit. The Jaguars continued to battle at the plate, working through at-bats and looking to generate opportunities throughout the game.
Despite the early deficit, Augusta's pitching and defense combined to hold USC Aiken scoreless over the final six innings.
