AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta University softball split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at USC Aiken on Saturday, earning a 4-0 shutout victory in game one before falling 10-4 in game two. The Jaguars move to 20-22 overall and 9-9 in conference play.
Game One
Augusta capitalized on early opportunities, scoring twice in the first inning to take control. Chesney Miles reached on an error and later scored, while Teagan Hinson delivered an RBI single to help the Jaguars build a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Jaguars added to their lead in the third inning, using aggressive baserunning and timely execution. Sydney Gilbert came around to score on a throwing error before Eden Parker lifted a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 4-0.
Augusta totaled nine hits in the contest, with Gilbert leading the way with three hits, including a double. Hinson also turned in a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Parker added an RBI.
In the circle, Madalyn Spinks delivered a complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits while allowing just one walk. She worked out of multiple situations to keep USC Aiken off the board and secure the win.
Game Two
Augusta struck first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on an RBI double from Kaylynn Scaffe. USC Aiken quickly responded in the bottom half, using a big first inning to score nine runs and seize control of the game.
The Jaguars continued to compete and showed resilience at the plate, breaking through in the fifth inning. After Sydney Gilbert reached and Scaffe added a hit, Ansley Gibson delivered the biggest swing of the game for Augusta, launching a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 10-4.
Scaffe finished with two hits and an RBI, while Gibson's home run accounted for three of Augusta's four runs. Gilbert also reached base multiple times and scored twice, helping spark the offense. Eden Parker added two hits as Augusta totaled eight on the game.
In the circle, Augusta worked through multiple arms, with Rylan Music and Gibson combining to stabilize things after the opening inning. Despite the early deficit, the Jaguars continued to battle and create opportunities throughout the later innings.
