AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta came up short in the series opener, falling 11-3 to USC Beaufort Sand Sharks softball on Friday evening at Jaguar Field.
Augusta broke through in the second to take an early lead. USC Beaufort answered in the third before the Jaguars responded in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by Kaylynn Scaffe's first of two doubles, driving in two runs to make it 3-1.
USC Beaufort responded in the fourth, using a six-run inning to take control of the game. Although Augusta continued to compete throughout the middle innings, putting runners on base and working through at-bats, the Jaguars continued to apply pressure but were unable to close the gap.
In the circle, Ansley Gibson made the start, while Madalyn Spinks provided relief as the Jaguars worked through the later innings.
