MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Augusta University softball split a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Olive on Wednesday, falling 4-3 in game one before bouncing back with a 5-3 win in game two. The Jaguars move to 19-20 overall on the season.
Game One
Augusta jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, scoring twice to take a 2-0 advantage and set the tone early.
Mount Olive responded in the middle innings, breaking through with a four-run fifth to swing momentum and take a 4-2 lead.
The Jaguars continued to battle late, adding a run in the seventh to cut the deficit to one and put pressure on in the final frame, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Ansley Gibson provided a key offensive highlight with a solo home run, while Sydney Gilbert reached base multiple times and added a double to help pace the lineup.
Gibson also went the distance in the circle, working six innings and keeping Augusta within striking distance throughout despite the decisive fifth inning.
Game Two
The Jaguars responded in game two with a strong all-around effort, breaking through with a five-run sixth inning to secure the win.
Kaylynn Scaffe paced the offense with a standout performance, collecting three hits and driving in a run. Sydney Gilbert continued her strong day at the plate, adding another hit and scoring a run, while Ansley Gibson reached base multiple times and contributed offensively.
Augusta's offense remained patient and opportunistic, using timely hitting and pressure on the basepaths to capitalize in the decisive sixth inning. The Jaguars also showcased aggressive baserunning, swiping multiple bases and forcing Mount Olive into mistakes.
In the circle, Kristyn Ezzo delivered a complete game performance, striking out six and working through key moments to keep Augusta in control down the stretch. Despite allowing three runs, Ezzo limited further damage and closed out the victory to secure the split.

The Jaguars return to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a road series at Lander University. Augusta opens the series on Friday, April 10 at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
