DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Augusta came up just short in a tightly contested matchup, falling 6-3 to North Georgia Nighthawks softball on Saturday afternoon.
North Georgia struck first in the second inning, but Augusta responded in the third as Victoria Oropeza drove in a run with a double to even the score at 1-1.
The Nighthawks added two runs in the fourth to regain the lead, but Augusta continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings.
In the fifth, Chesney Miles reached base and came around to score, while Augusta again threatened in the seventh. Nevaeh Ross and Payton Terrell opened the inning with back-to-back hits before a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Kelsea Moody followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3.
Victoria Oropeza led the Jaguars at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Chesney Miles added a 2-for-3 performance. Augusta finished with nine hits in the contest.
In the circle, Madalyn Spinks worked the first four innings before Kristyn Ezzo provided relief as the Jaguars held North Georgia in check into the late innings.
North Georgia broke through in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run home run to secure the win.
