ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Augusta University volleyball suffered its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season Saturday, falling 3-0 to Flagler in a matchup of teams that entered the afternoon unbeaten in league play.
Flagler won 25-21, 25-17 and 25-17. Augusta moved to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the PBC, while Flagler improved to 13-2.
Nikol Antova led Augusta with 12 kills on .214 hitting while adding six digs. Layne Witherspoon finished with five kills and six digs, while Sofiia Snitsarevych and Emma Haren each added four kills.
Andrea Rodríguez recorded 12 assists and five digs. Kinley Nicholls added nine assists, nine digs and an ace, while Hunter McFarland also finished with nine digs. Haren collected seven digs, and Moni Anjous added five.
Augusta finished with 32 kills and hit .078 for the match. Flagler recorded 38 kills on .224 hitting and held advantages in service aces, 6-4, and blocks, 7.0-4.0. The Jaguars held a 58-56 edge in digs.
The Jaguars put down 13 kills and hit .171 in the opening set, but Flagler answered with 16 kills on .256 hitting to take the frame 25-21.
The second set featured 10 ties and six lead changes before Flagler created separation. Augusta was held to six kills and a negative hitting percentage as the Saints took a two-set lead with a 25-17 win.
Augusta recorded 13 kills in the third, but Flagler committed only one attack error and hit .310 to close the match with another 25-17 victory.
The loss snapped Augusta's three-match winning streak. The Jaguars return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a 6 p.m. match at Converse in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
