Jaguar Student-Athletes Volunteer Time During Event to Commemorate 9/11

Augusta, Ga. - A number of student-athletes representing both the women's basketball team and softball team volunteered their time during the annual Tunnels to Tower event held on the Summerville Campus at Augusta University. The Jaguars served in various rolls that included serving as course marshals and assisting at the finish line of the 5K run/walk.

The Tunnels to Tower honors those who lost their lives on 9/11 as this year marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic event.

Tunnel to Towers run and walk is to honor the life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001 after running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers with his firefighting gear on.

The event is held to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, but also to raise money for the foundation that assists Gold Star families to build mortgage free homes. Augusta athletes were more than willing to volunteer as a way to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but also to honor Augusta first responders who continue to put their lives on the line every day.
