AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State used a strong second half to earn an 81-59
non-conference victory over Paine College Saturday night in Carter
Gymnasium.
The victory was the seventh straight in the series for the Lady
Jaguars, who improved to 2-2 with the victory. The loss dropped
Paine to 0-4 on the season.
ASU junior guard/forward Nicole Mealing netted 18 points and 11
rebounds for her third double-double in the first five games.
Junior guard Brittany Jarrard posted a season-high 15 points while
junior Jasmine Godwin and sophomore Kenisha Sheppard come off the
bench to book 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior point guard
Eboni Davis handed out seven assists.
LaKeisha Bell netted a game-high 20 points for Paine and added 11
rebounds. Shanee' Butler had 12 points and Brittany Pevey
chipped in 10.
ASU, which outscored the hosts 50-24 in the second half,
outrebounded the Lady Lions 49-39 and forced 26 turnovers.
Paine jumped ahead early in the first half and owned the lead for
nearly the entire period. The Lady Lions got 23 points from Bell
and Butler and outshot ASU 51.9 percent to 25.0 percent over the
first 20 minutes.
The Lady Jags return to action on Monday, Dec. 15 when they open
their Peach Belt Conference schedule against Georgia College &
State at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
