AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Francis Marion withstood an upset bid from Augusta State, claiming
a 93-90 Peach Belt Conference victory Wednesday night in
Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Patriots improved to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in
conference play. The loss dropped ASU to 4-12 overall and 2-7 in
the league.
The Lady Jaguars scored a season-high 49 points in the first half
and booked a season-high game total 90 points.
Junior Nicole Mealing notched her sixth double-double of the season
with a career-high 28 points and 22 rebounds. Mealing's 22
rebounds set a new school record for Augusta State. Senior Tracey
Paschal turned in 23 points, while junior Brittany Jarrard tallied
12 points.
For the Patriots, junior Shana Franks led the team with 19 points
and seven rebounds. Senior Kevina Ransom netted 18 points and
senior Creshenda Singletary added 14 points.
The two teams combined for 51 turnovers, including eight turnovers
just four minutes into the game.
Francis Marion shot 70.0 percent from the free throw line and
forced 33 ASU turnovers, but connected on only 4-of-15 3-point
attempts.
The Lady Jags owned the rebounding edge 49-41 and shot 50.0 percent
from the field. ASU shot 69.4 percent from the free throw line, but
connected on only 7-of-21 3-point attempts (33.3percent).
ASU hosts Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m.,
in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
