AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State delivered its largest win of the season on Saturday
with a 82-55 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady Hurricanes
in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Lady Hurricanes' 55 points were the fewest Augusta State
has allowed all season. The previous low was 57 points vs.
Armstrong Atlantic on Jan. 10
With the win, the Lady Jaguars improved to 5-12 overall and 3-7 in
conference play. The loss dropped Georgia Southwestern to 5-12
overall and 0-10 in the league.
The Lady Jaguars had five shooting in double digits for the first
time this season, including junior Brittany Jarrard who led the
team with 15 points. Senior Tracey Paschal netted 13 points and
five rebounds, while junior Nicole Mealing tallied 12 points.
Junior Porsha White added 11 points and junior Jasmine Godwin had
10 points.
For the Lady Hurricanes, senior forward Jamilah Sharp led with 13
rebounds and eight points. Junior guard Brandi Burris had eight
points and seven rebounds, while junior Clarissa Corbett added
eight points off the bench.
Georgia Southwestern jumped out on top with a layup from Burris,
but ASU answered back with a layup from Mealing and ended the first
half with a 32-24 lead.
ASU came out and dominated the Lady Hurricanes the whole second
half. The Lady Jags led by as many as 29 points.
The Lady Hurricanes owned the rebounding edge 52-40 and shot 63.0
percent from the free throw line. GSU only shot 25.7 percent from
the field and only connected on 2-of-16 3-point attempts (12.5
percent).
ASU shot 47.6 percent from the field and connected on 15-of-20 free
throw attempts (75.0 percent), but only shot 33.3 percent from the
3-point line.
The Lady Jags are back in action Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2:00 p.m.
when they travel to Milledgeville, Ga., to play in Peach Belt
Conference matchup against Georgia College & State
University.
