JEFFERSON CITY,
Tenn. – Carson-Newman jumped out to a 52-22 halftime
lead Wednesday night and posted a 100-64 non-conference victory
over Augusta State in Holt Fieldhouse.
The contest marked the season opener for the Lady Jaguars (0-1),
while the Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 with the win.
Junior guard Blaire Egardo paced four ASU players in double figures
with 14 points, four assists and three steals. Jarquella Woods,
Waneta Carlisle and Stacey Lampkin tallied 10 points each and
Kirsten Stallings grabbed a teamhigh eight rebounds.
Ashley Kyle led Carson-Newman with 20 points and seven assists.
Shari Buford booked 14 points while Mandy Mendenhall and Katlin
Moore added 10 points each.
C-N shot 55 percent in the game, compared to 44 percent for the
Lady Jags. Both squads connected on five 3- pointers, while ASU won
the rebounding edge 39-34 and shot 50 percent in the second half.
Nine players logged double-digit minutes for the Lady Jags.
ASU hosts the Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Classic on Friday and Saturday,
Nov. 20-21, in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Lady Jags take on
North Greenville on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and face Glenville State
on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
