AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Armstrong Atlantic State built a double-digit lead early in
the second half Saturday and posted a 76-63 Peach Belt Conference
victory over Augusta State in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The contest
marked the league opener for both teams.
The Lady Pirates improved to 2-4 on the season while the Lady
Jaguars dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-4 at home.
Senior guard Brittany Jarrard led ASU with 18 points, including
four 3-pointers. Freshman Waneta Carlisle came off the bench to
book 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while junior forward
Briyana Evans netted 13 points.
Portia Jones paced five Lady Pirates in double figures with 16
points. Arpine Amirkhanyan managed 14 and Dartayvia Thomas, Brooke
Long and Jazmin Walker turned in 12, 11 and 10 points,
respectively.
AASU shot 48 percent for the game, compared to 42 percent for the
Lady Jags. The Lady Pirates edged ASU on the glass, 41-30. The Lady
Jags matched their season low with just 12 turnovers.
The Lady Pirates led by as many as 26 with 4:30 left in the game
before ASU closed out the contest on a 15-2 run.
The Lady Jags travel to Rock Hill, S.C., next weekend to face
Division I-foe Winthrop on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
