AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Lander dealt Augusta State its worst conference loss this
season with a 94-60 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady
Jags Wednesday in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Lander, which has won four straight games, improves to 14-7 overall
and 9-5 in the PBC, while the Lady Jaguars drop to 5-17, 3-12. The
Lady Bearcats held ASU scoreless for the final 5:19 of the
game.
Jasmine Godwin led the Lady Jags with 18 points and seven assists,
while Porsha White earned her fourth double-double of the season
with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Brittany Jarrard added 10 points in
the loss.
Lyons connected on 10-of-21 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws
while grabbing seven rebounds. Butler was 8-of-14 from the field
and 6-of-6 from the free throw line and had seven rebounds. Shannon
McKever posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and
Nardia Robbins added 12 points.
Lander, which led 42-38 at halftime, connected on 37-of-89 field
goals for 41.6 percent, including just 4-of-20 three pointers for
20 percent. The Lady Bearcats were 16-of-21 from the foul line for
76.2 percent.
Augusta State made 23-of-73 floor shots for 31.5 percent, 2-of-13
three pointers for 15.4 percent and 12-of-18 foul shots for 66.7
percent.
After leading by just four points at halftime, Lander went on a
20-4 run and built up a 64-42 lead on a Lyons free throw with 14:36
remaining in the game.
The Lady Jags matched Lander point
for point for about seven minutes then Lander outscored them 18-2
in the final eight minutes.
The Lady Jags are back in action Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
when they travel to Savannah, Ga., to play in Peach Belt Conference
matchup against Armstrong Atlantic State University.
