AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State pounded out 20 hits to top the Paine Lions
13-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Lions
Field. With the win, the Jaguars improved to 3-6 on the year.
Senior Kevin Owens hit for the cycle and led the Jags offensively,
going 5-for-6 on the day, including four RBI. Junior Evan Smith
earned his first career in-the-park homerun. Smith, Alex Walker,
and Shannon Wilkerson logged three hits each, while freshman Robbie
Downing had his first career triple. Tyler Marzofka and Tony Baker
each had a pair of safeties.
Junior Carl Burrow started the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing
only three hits and two runs. Freshman Chase Johnston relieved
Burrow in the fourth earning his first collegiate win. Johnston
gave up only three hits in 2.2 innings.
For the Lions, Robert Dominy led the team offensively with two
hits, while five different Lions each had one hit.
Paine starter Brad Freeman went four innings, giving up eight hits
and four runs.
ASU hosts Shippensburg State for a doubleheader on Saturday
afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First pitch is slated for
noon.
