AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Carson-Newman completed a three-game sweep of Augusta State
Monday afternoon with an 8-3 non-conference victory at Lake
Olmstead Stadium.
The Eagles outhit ASU 12-4 and took advantage of five Jaguar
errors. Carson-Newman combined for 45 hits in the three-game
set.
Junior rightfielder Shannon Wilkerson and freshman Adam King
homered and doubled to account for all four of the Jaguar hits.
King had two of ASU's three RBI.
Rory Elliott went 3-for-4 for Carson-Newman and Derek Long and
Mills Rogers added two safeties each. Long drove in two runs and
six other Eagles collected an RBI.
Junior righthander Wes McIntyre (1-0) allowed just three hits and
an earned run in 7.0 innings to pick up the win. D.J. worked the
final 2.0 innings, surrendering a hit and two runs.
Jaguar senior lefty Ben Dukes (0-1) yielded seven hits and six
runs, but only two earned, in 5.0 innings. Freshman reliever Chase
Johnston, making his collegiate debut, was charged with four hits
and two earned runs in 3.0 innings. Redshirt freshman lefty Robby
Downing struck out two and walked one and gave up one hit in the
ninth in his first collegiate appearance.
ASU hosts Anderson in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at
Jaguar Field adjacent to Christenberry Fieldhouse. First pitch is
slated for 2:00 p.m.
