AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State swept West Liberty 6-2 and 4-1 in a
non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Olmstead
Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 13-10 overall and 3-3 in the
PBC, while West Liberty dropped to 1-8 on the season.
In game one, freshman Chase Johnston (2-1) earned the win, giving
up only two runs on five hits. In game two, freshman Trey Ripley
earned the start, pitching 3.0 innings and gave up one run on two
hits. Sophomore Blake Pockrandt earned his first win of the season,
relieving Ripley in the fourth. Pockrandt gave up only four hits
and had two strikeouts.
Senior Tim Rawlings and junior Shannon Wilkerson paced ASU
offensively going 3-for-7 on the afternoon, with Wilkerson having
two RBI. Senior Jorge Vierguez was 2-for-4 in game one with two
RBI, while freshman Adam King and junior catcher Alex Sickman each
had two safeties on the day.
ASU is back in action on tomorrow, March 11, when they travel to
Atlanta, Ga. to play Georgia State. Game time is slated for 5:00
p.m.
